The House Farm Bill failed to pass, but there's still time to take action on the Senate Farm Bill! Urge Senators Burr and Tillis to support a Senate Farm Bill that authorizes adequate funding for land trust work. North Carolina land trusts rely on Farm Bill programs to protect working farms and forests for future generations and to ensure these lands remain in agricultural production. It's critical to reauthorize a Farm Bill that restores funding for the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP) to at least $500 million per year.
At the current funding level of just $250 million per year, the program is meeting less than 10% of the demand and that leaves a lot of lands in our state at risk. North Carolina land trusts and soil and water conservation districts have used federal ACEP funding to match state funds to protect more than 5,000 acres of working family farms.
Take action now! Encourage Senators Burr and Tillis to consider NC land trusts, and pass a Senate Farm Bill that ensures a fully funded and strong conservation title this year.
Your support is critical to advocate for a Senate Farm Bill that adequately meets the needs of NC Land Trusts to conserve more lands. Thank you for contacting Senators Burr and Tillis on this important issue.
